Im gonna get it checked by a friend with vag com on thurs but I just want some reassurance untill then, if it doesnt go out by its self before then that is... So I was told to get out by my now *** hole father and in my rage, I jumped into my car, which sat in the garage all day, and put the pedal on the floor. A sec or two later, I noticed my ce light on. I know its not smart to run anything hard when its cold and I never ever do it, but I was/am soo pissed, that I didnt even think about it. Im hoping that nothing is actually messed up, thinking it just had a missfire when it was cold or something like that. Thanks for any help, Matt.

CEL on means get it looked at sometime soon..

CEL flashing means Shut it off NOW cause your hurting it.

 

Probably just a misfire which should clear in a couple weeks. depending on how much you drive. Autozone can run the code for free.

You probably received a cheap lesson -- slamming around a car because you are mad can result in $000s in damage.

^^ Correct! is it blinking or not? if it is blinking DO NOT DRIVE IT! It wont clear itself dont listen to these people something is fucked up and needs to be take care of. If the light is just solid it could be maybe a cat or 02 sensor? It can be a number of things. Limit your driving completely. I had mine on about a week ago and my Cylinder 5 was misfire. I however didnt drive it at all. The more you drive with this light on Blinking or solid you risk damaging the engine more and more. Try not to drive it at all if possible

 

Its not flashing, just on. A friend has vag com, we are hooking it up tomorrow. And no, my dad wasnt right, he admitted he was a dick and said he was sorry for it. And I never blamed him for what I did, that was an explanation, because I didnt just say, hey, Im gonna go drive the crap outta my car today. I know not to run cars hard cold, but I was to pissed to think, MY BAD.I know what the ce light represents, and im betting it was a miss, just looking for some others opinions about what triggered it.

ok, some of these guys responses are wrong. Dont be scared to drive your car. A blinking check engine light means that raw fuel is being dumped into the exhaust meaning at least one cylinder is not firing properly which will damage your CAT. A solid check engine light could still be for a missfire. Just go to a local parts store and they will scan it for you. Chances are nothing major is wrong. If i had to guess, i would say the code that you come back with is for a Secondary air injection insufficient or something like that.

 

Went out, checked it with vag com, miss fire in #4. We actually didnt delete it, forgot to clear it, started it once, drove it and it was still on... damn. restarted it to drive back and it was off, so no problem, what I expected. Sorry RR686, fg about you, its NH who didnt give any usefull info, that was common sense stuff. So thanks. And 99, I believe you are wrong sir, if it is flashing, you are supposed to shut it down and get it checked out asap. Never ran funny, same thing has happend before, on many of our vws.
