Default Changing Aux Fan on 98 A6 2.8L

Can the Aux Fan be changed without removing the front end?

I'm hoping to take care of this after work today.

Thanks in advance!

I know I was able to do it on mine. Its easier if you leave the support for the fan in the car and just change the actual fan unit without the support bracket that is all around the fan.

Thanks! Did this job on Saturday. took me about 2.5 hrs but that's only because it took so long to get the new fan to sit in all three holes of the support bracket. The bottom hole was a PITA to get the new unit to sit into. I finally was able to squeeze my arm all the way to the bottom in order to push the plastic locking piece into the bottom hole of the support bracket.

Before, when running the AC the car sounded like there was a vacuum cleaner under the hood. Now with this new unit, it's ultra quiet when the AC is running. Nice! :-)

i had to pull/push the oil cooler line that was going along the side of the fan to get all 3 of the support thingys into their holes, it took me like 10 minutes to get the fan out and 10 minutes to get it back in. I took apart the fan motor, the 4 brushes were stopped prematurely because of carbon dust. I cleaned it up, wiggled the brushes and stretched the springs and put it back together, works perfectly now. The brushes on my ac/condensor fan are done, I gotta find new brushes for that fan...

@madridlover. Did you replace with a stock fan, or an after market higher CFM fan? My A6 2.8l also sounds like a jet warming up when the AC is running.
