Default Changing battery in '01 A6 quattro

I just bought this last week and I think my battery needs changing. Is there any way to change it w/o kicking radio into safe mode? I don't have the numbers to reset it as there was no manual with the car. Any ideas?

After reading the other posts on changing batteries, I came across the memory saver idea of a pile in a 9v in the cig lighter. Just finished and the $5.00 item seems to have worked perfectly. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I have 01, and never had the radio code problem from changing the battery. As long as you reconnect the battery in a few minutes, it should be fine.

Yeah, putting a battery (like a 9V or something with voltage at least CLOSE to 12V) on either the terminals or in the cigarette lighter should work just fine.

I don't think their is much fear of losing the radio with disconnected battery. My 97 A6 was on the rack in my mech's garage for near 2 months while the fought with the Warranty company to get repairs paid for, battery disconnected. Connect, works, all my presets still there.

There MAY be some flash memory that will short and erase if you pull the connectors off the back of the radio, as if you are stealing it.

It seems to me to be asinine for VW-Audi to make a car that having AutoZone or Advance or Sears replace a battery and have to get a new code to operate the radio again.

Cheers,

George

I know that if i take my battery out for more than 30 minutes I need to put in my radio code, so the least you can do is take some precaution if you don't have said radio code to put in.
