Full disclosure I am not a mechanic or anyone with a firm grasp on how these things work so forgive me if I ask stupid questions.... and thank you in advance.

My check engine light is on but my 2009 A6 runs perfectly. I have to smog my car this year to register. What do I do? What would you do?
