Check engine light came on - dealer says needs to update/reprogram computer - they had recently received tech serv bulletin......$400.....anyone run into this?

Sounds suspicious to me. Try this link:

Find someone local to you with a VAG-COM connection and have them check and possibly reset your CEL before you do anything else.

One other bit of advice... find an independent shop, dealers are generally a choice of last resort.

Dealer referenced a Audi Tech service bulletin - 010406.....what to do if can't figure out problem, if check engine light comes on.....definitely a software glitch.
