Some codes take a few driving cycles to return.. Therefore it is very important to get the code. I usually clear the code and see if it returns before making any major decisions about doing work - unless it has stopped running!

Hi everyoneI just returned from Auto Zone where they would not clear the codes , there are 2 and here they are PO421 and PO741. One sounded like the vac line issue and the other was described as " having to do with the torque converter and overdrive on the highway " from the guy who would not clear the codes due to some law he referenced. In case it's relevant on the way home on the highway @ 70 mph rpms were 2700-2800 kinda seems high now that I think further about it but I await new from the many almightys here !!

graybno,

The TC issues are common as turbos and oil leaks.
Search the forum as there is a plenty of info in that regard.
No need to panic - this is an Audi you are having, get used to.
If your mental health gets compromised beyond reasonable levels - just get rid of the car!

I hear you .. I however love the car , just didn't realize the maintenance issues
that come with it... I had an 01 A6 2.7T in 01 back when cash was far more prevalent that ended up being sold @ 28k mi that had not one problem. Actually my fault for not re reading on things in advance but I likely still would have purchased it ( current one ). It is a dream to drive , lots of fun , it would just be better if I could forget about maintenance and $$$ for a bit but I will get over it. I am still on the hunt for the least expensive , yet proper way to rectify the PO741 code and if it's a TC then so be it.

The TC comes with a code 17125.
The seal of the infamous "captive clutch".

This is one of the reasons the Audi is driven by my wife -
low mileage weekly;
I drive the Subaru Outback (manual) that only demands regular maintenance - oils, brakes and tires. (the TB is really good for 168k km, no data on broken belts....).

Some things are just not meant to be user friendly for long.

Which hose was disconnected at the valve cover? Was it the breather hose going into the valve cover? Anyways wait and see if P0421 goes out in a couple of weeks. It is bank 1 pre-cat below efficiency code. If the issues does not go away in a couple of weeks, your ECU probably needs an update.

As for P0741, the tranny may simply be low on fluid. I would recommend replacing the filter and fluid, and filling it to proper level and see if it goes away.

BTW, a dealer will charge you roughly $300 to flash the ECU and another $400 to replace the filter and fluid in your tranny.

Hose was pass side , went directly into valve cover , had a plastic clip and the whole thing was detatched , had to be worked back into place and then I think snapped into place. Dealer quoted $269 for trans fl and filter , $ 400 for ECU reflash?? Any place else have the software ?? Heading to dealer this afternoon with unclear expectations.

Dealer also quoted me $64 to give me the radio code as the guy who sold me the car had no manual , no technical or original paperwork at all.
