my check engine light came on today and began to blink.

i have a 2002 A6 quattro. the books states it could be a catalytic converter issue.

anyone have any experience with Cat's on A6?

 

dude if it blinks DO NOT drive the car. cats can be replaced with the whole pipe or u can have a muffler shop cut it out and weld one another one. universal ones work too. just make sure the O2 sensor fits up and you should be okay

 

It's probably not the cat, at least not yet. The flashing CEL means there is a problem that will destroy the cats if you keep driving. You need to see what the codes are. Possibly severe misfires, caused by a bad coilpack or power output stage (as was the case on my son's A4). Find someone with a VagCom or at least go borrow a OBDII code reader from AutoZone or Advance.
