Default Chip Questions

I have owned a 07 STi (chipped with Cobb Acessport) and also a 99 F350 (chipped with Edge Evolution).

My question is, with what I understand with the Audi chips they all have to be installed by someone else. APR you send in your ECM, and GIAC you have to go to a dealer to get "chipped". How does this work if you need to take your car to the dealership because of problems? If they try to re-write anything (software update etc.) wont it mess up your tune? For my old STi it would mess up the computer and you had to send it in to Cobb to get it fixed. Is there any handheld programmer for consumers? Or how do people "cheat" that still have warranty's?

GIAC has a flash loader that you can switch between programs. ie, go back to stock. Both APR and GIAC can "chip" you on the spot at a store. If you cant get to one, then you have to send it off.

I went to the GIAC website and am still a little confused. I want the flashloader (kill and valet features especially) but I cant find a price on that or is that included, it says my car is compatible?

Dont go to the GIAC site, they are useless. Find a local GIAC dealer if that is that tune you want, they will be able toflash the car and sell you the flashloader, I think it runs about 150-200. APR might be something you look into, as they use the cruise control stock for switching programs
