computer instrument cluster
Okay, I'm confused. I have a 2000 audi a6 4.2, whose middle computer in the instrument cluster only shows when the vehicle is cold. Once it warms up, it becomes dim and eventually blanks out. Because I have gps and the need to see the computer screen, I would love to have some insight on what to do. I was told that you cannnot get the computer screen by itself, you have to get the whole speedomter, rpm gauge, cluster, which will run me almost $800.00. HELP!!!!!

RE: computer instrument cluster
hmm its fully functional when cold and cuts when warm? that could be the dimmer switch for the dash lights check to see if its turned off/low for night driving

RE: computer instrument cluster
Thanks for the reply. I just bought this car, but hve had audi's in the past. On the left side of the steering wheel is the dimmer switch for the instrument cluster. is there another switch that turns it on and off?

RE: computer instrument cluster
its the same switch but the fact the unit works when cold could be down to a weak capacitor so an electrician is the best way and possibly the cheapest way

RE: computer instrument cluster
A weak capacitor? Is there someway I could go to the dealer and say, please check the capacitor? Do you have any clue if this computer problem is worldwide and a problem for audi's? When I was car shopping, I came acrosss a lot of vehicles whose computer was blank in the panel. Is there anywhere or anyone who sells them?

RE: computer instrument cluster
it is a common problem on many cars especially Lexus the dealer wont do anything except rape your wallet, the car is 2000 so I doubt it would be covered by any warranty so an independent electrician would be best ( get a price quote first )
