Hey guys,

I have a leak coming from my car and it looks like the same stuff that's in the coolant box. it is a darkish red/maroon color. I took the car to my mechanic and he thinks it is the water pump. i am smelling coolant when i get out of the car after driving but not that strong. My mechanic tells me that to fix the water pump he has to take off the timing belt etc.. he says it is a 7 hr job and will run me $1200. i don't know if the audi dealership will charge less cause they know what they are doing or if they will charge more. I am taking it to them in a few days just to check it out. If it is the water pump doyou guys think this price sounds right or do you know of any one in the central jersey area that can fix this for cheaper? Again, don't know for sure if it is the water pump. Any suggestions would be helpful. thanks. this is a 2000 A6 4.2.

 

Sounds about right to be honest. They wanted to change my pump on a 2.7t and he told me about $1200, but since they were in there he would do the timing belt and serpintine belt for free... +parts obviously
