98 A6 Quattro 162K

I have a leaky radiator hose and the coolant level is very low. Can I just put some generic coolant in till I get the leak fixed? Will this damage the car? I have heard that not putting the exact fluid can cause damage.

Any thought?

 

i've used water before for a quick fix but never any other coolant. just pick up some g12 at a dealership.

 

I've used an all purpose (recommended for all vehicles) pre-mix (50/50) Prestone radiator coolant without any issues whatsoever. You can find in Auto Parts store for about $8-$12.
