In the 3 and 1/2 years that I have had my 05 4.2 with 18" rims I have not cracked any of the rims, nor have I heard of anyone cracking a rim. What did you hit?

same here... Ive run 17"'s on both cars ive owned and never cracked a rim.. I know when my dad bent a rim hitting a pothole he was saying there were shops that can fix cracks and bends, but apparently they arent cheap. In the end he ended up ordering a new set of wheels because it was almost not worth the price

My 05 4.2 with 18" rims has a matching spare. Why don't you just use the original spare as a full time rim and get a cheap rim as a replacement spare?

Guys, thanks for the replies, I've hit NOTHING. The rim is in perfect shape except for this hairline crack. I currently have the cracked one in the trunk. Had I done something to cause this I would accept the responsibility of replacing it myself. I've never experienced this with a vehicle before. Thanks for your help. We shall see what Audi has to say.

I never saw or heard of a cracked rim, until I bought my Audi. Two hairline cracks on both front wheels. Repairs don't work very well. I'm loosing pressure again from one of them, and I'm guessing its due to the 'fixed' crack.

Not sure if you will have much joy with the warrenty. They will say you hit somthing, rather than a manufacturing fault. One argument you could try is that if the impact was so great to cause a crack, surely the rim would be bent? Claim its a manufacturing defect.

Good luck.

I agree that Audi will assert that either you, or the former owner who drove the car for 3 years, must have hit something. Get a cheap rim as a spare.

katcoota, was 2005 A6 with 18" Wheels? Just curious. I will let you know what happens. But otherwise the rim is perfect. Was the crack in the inside or the outside of the rim?
Thanks

According to his post he has a 2001, not a 2005.
