I have a 2002 FWD 3.0

Was running fine then noticed a slight hesitation on acceleration from a standstill. Started it this morning and when i left the driveway it started running rough. Took it back to the garage and got codes 304 and 321 which are misfire on #4 and possible faulty ckp sensor. I have not had the car long and want to change the sensor myself but cannot be sure i am looking at the right one just from text descriptions since i am new to Audi cars.

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of the upper location on firewall and lower location on engine? I think if someone can at least help with the lower location i can trace it back to the upper.

I am looking for a decent manual but it looks like i will have to order one which may take a few days. i would like to get it fixed before then.

EDIT: Just realized you said Crankshaft, not Camshaft. Opps, I'll see if I can find that one in the Bentley.

 

I will save this one in case i need to change the camshaft sensors at some point.

I can't find any pics or diagrams in the Bentley about the crank position sensor. It's 23 on the diagrams I posted above, it's a grey 3 pin connector, second from the left under the coolant bottle. I believe the sensor is on the bell housing of the transmission. Upper drivers side, but that's about the best I can do.

FWIW, if the crank position sensor was bad, the car would not run, or would be very erratic, like run only when cold, but not hot.

 

Thanks for the information. I have located the correct sensor based on what you have replied with. Here is what i found:

Misfire on #4 was due to a bad coil. Replaced the coil and both codes went away. The car has been running fine. So it appears in this case P0321 showed up because of the bad coil causing misfire thus creating a false positive for a bad CKP sensor.
