dash lights not a replaceable item - have to replace whole cluster??

I called my local dealership today looking for replacement lights for the dash cluster and was told that the lights are not a replaceable item and that I would have to replace the entire cluster?

I just want to replace the lights - not the whole cluster. Where can I find lights at?

1998 A6 Quattro sedan - 2.8 - auto

Thanks.

Yeah, the whole cluster, just had this done on my 02. Cost roughly $800. Sorry for the bad news man.

BULL SHIT!!! I hate it when the dealership and others make stupid remarks.

The lights can be replaced on the dash of a 1998 A6 instrument pannel-cluster. I have done it on numerous vehicles including my current 97 A6... The bulbs are special but can be purchased on-line for around $3 each -- (Awhile ago I saw some for around $1.50) Bentley shows the location of the bulbs and a search of a few Audi web sites will tell you how to remove the cluster. It is a simple job --- I did the last one in about an hour- including taking a few minute to drink a cool one and making the inevidable pit stop because the liquid did not have to slow down to change color...

get tool box.
figure it out.

come on, he can't spoon-feed you everything.

if no... then go spend hundreds of dollars at the dealership.
your choice

or, just be a jerk...it's much easier, right?

To remove the cluster (from what I've read) pull the trim ring off from the bottom of the cluster, remove 2 screws, unplug the connections and the cluster should come out...there is also a write up on audiworld...

Now, easy question - where do you find the bulbs? Advance doesn't carry them and the dealer has already told me they can't get them. I found a kit on blauparts, but it's only for '97 models - not '98.
