DEALER Auction Prices

I am trying to reasearch values on a, lets say 99 or 2000 Audi A6 2.8L Quattro

I have come accross the the Manheim Auction Market Report, which seems to be what dealers go by as a guide when purchasing inventory at the dealer auctions....

Their website (www.manheim.com/tour/mmr.mpl) requires registration, and registration requires a dealer with an AuctionACCESS number.

My question: Anybody here got an AuctionACCESS number that could do a little investigating for me?

Or if you have a dealer friend, can you find out?

Let say for a 99 2.8L quattro 90 000 miles OR SIMILAR +/-

thanks all:D

You might look at the trade in value on a particular model and that could give you and idea of where you need to be. You might already know this but an A6 with that many miles is sure to have some issues you will need to address. so factor that in and if you cant find out don't buy the car. you need to know if the timing belt has been changed, check the suspension and the condition of the CV joint boots. Oxygen sensors have a habit of failing at about that many miles. I am sure there are other things I am not listing but those are what I have had to deal with since I purchased mine with 50K on the odometer. I love my 2000 A6 Avant but be aware they require allot of TLC.

To what ddunham said I would like to add that the timing belt should have been replaced by now or you will need to do it right after you bought the car.
90k miles is not an issue per se, but there will be maintenance to be done and some item to be replaced such as control arms and tie rod ends, and very likely shocks.

not sure how much this will help, but about 17 months ago I bought my 2000 audi a6 4.2 at an auction and bid 9,100 and paid about 11,000 with auction fees and CA taxes. The car had 96K on it when I bought it and like mentioned above, these cars love maintinence. Did the timing belt right after I got it, control arms about 6 months ago, and now im workin on the CV boots. But it runs like a champ! but hey, you learn A LOT working on these cars.

thanks. i am kind of aware of the TLC audis need. we had 3 growing up. a 100, A4 and A6.... all ended up with sky high miles on and mothing major wrong with them except for normal maintenance, which i'd rather spend on than car payments for a newer car.

I am not too familiar with control arms being replaced..what happens to them once some miles are racked up? ABS lights seem to be commmon too huh? is this usually the module being needed to be replaced, front and rear if its a quattro?

fwiw I paid $3,700 for my '98 A6 about 4 months ago...

Control arm rubber bushings wear out, no way to grease them, they need to be replaced. Keep in mind the A4/A6's have 4 control arms at each front wheel, total of 8. Lots of guys replace all and the tie rod ends and sway bar C-links.
ABS light usually means the ABS contol module needs replacing, they're not cheap, butsome places rebuild them. I've seen $200-250 to rebuild them, or $600-1000 new. Only 1 module, attached to, or near the ABS pump in the engine bay.

I am a dealer and buy and sell many Audis. A 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro in good shape with that kind of mileage would bring somewhere between $4-5k. Manheims MMR shows that they bring between $3k and $5k depending on mileage and condition. You could find a nice one for around $4500.

I agree with 99A6Q at $3 to $5K and ddunham saying to use the wholesale price (but sometimes KBB - edmonds - etc are a little too high)

I usually purchase old Audi's -always Quattros -with 100 to 150K and NEVER spend over $3K. Sometimes they have a CEL, but I always run a VAGCom and make sure the timing belt was recently done. You'd be suprised at the number of people that have a dealer do the timing belt and then panic when the CEL comes on within a few months.
The last one had a Secondary Aip pump CEL and I fixed it with a $0.20 vacuum hose.
