I bought a HID conversion kid for my 96 A6 Avant. It was a plug and play 12,000K unit.
The reason I belive its on is because the old H1 bulbs had a metal houseing, I think it was grounded through the headlights.
The new HID H1 bulb has a plastic houseing, it came with a new ground wire that I grounded to a bolt in the front of the car.
So since its not through the origonal type ground is that why it thinks its not working. If so will it be safe to run the new ground wire to the old one, I belive its a light purple wire that is to the ground area on the headlight where the bulb is mounted to it. Or what if I left the ground wire where I put it and ran another wire from that also to the the headlight ground. Or does it have to be the headlight ground only to get the dashlight off.
I also don't recall if the lowbeam headlight went out when I switched it to highbeams but it dosent now if they did, so I have high and low beams on.

RE: Did HID conversion, and now headlight out light is on, on dash.
Bit too blue arent the 12000K?
Why did u use the 12000K bulb, visibility is not very good with these
If u just wonted a bluer headlight u should just have used the H7 Philips CrystalVision and u would have saved a heap of money
I dont think there is and car maufacturer that uses a 12000K bulb for there cars straight out of the factory?
Trust me mate us a 4300 - 4500K bulb (which is 3.5 times brighter than u stock halogen) and u wont look back
