Diesel mpg or miles/liter

What kind of mileage do our European friends get with the A-6 diesel?

I had a 2001 1.9TDI and over 100 000 km I avergaed just better than 7 l/100km (34 MPG US).

However, I am looking at a new one now and my first choice is the 2.7TDI (which is 180 BHP) Quattro and that is reputed to be a lot worse - nearer 8 on averag which is 30 MPG. Of course they do an amazing mileage just pottering down the freeway at 90 - 100 MPH.

Currently I have a BMW 530d and went down to south of Frankfurt from Brussels and back on a tank of fuel at an average spped of nearly 120km per hour and fuel consumption of 6.5 (36 MPG). I cruised at over 200 kph for a few chunks of empty autobahn - never managed to max it sadly :D

Modern diesels- smooth, quiet, fast, efficient - what more can you want?

you should see the top gear where Jeremy Clarkson takes an Audi A8 with the twin-turbo Diesel....and get this drives it 800 miles on one tank!....that really makes me wanna cry! if you have BitTorrent....then by all means watch the episode! http://www.finalgear.com/shows/topgear/4/4/

p.s. yeah i know this is an A6 forum...but had to share the story since we were talking about diesels!

depends on the engine size my 1.9tdi returns 50 mpg round town "driven right" and 65+ on motorways

Yeah that was really amazing - London to Edinburgh and back on one tank in a luxobarge. Admittedly he had to keep the AC off and not even use the cruise control in order to maximise fuel economy and he never went above about 55 mph. He says at the end that it was the hardest drive he had ever done despite having a night's rest in Edinburgh.

If you really want a disel go with a vw. I know its not quite an audi but the new passat with the diesl is supposed to get 45 mpg on the highway which is phenominal. Especially considering it has some decent pickup.
