Default Differences in 2.7T from 2000 & 2001

Hello friends,
Unfortunately the motor on my 2001 a6 2.7T (Auto) went bad and the mechanic has suggested me to replace it with a used 2.7 APB engine.
So I found a few 2000 2.7 a6 engines I want to know will that fit perfectly in my 2001? Also is it going to be compatible with the computer and electrical system of the car? Please advise me if I should get a 2000 a6 2.7 engine or should I continue to search for a 2001? the mechanic said the 2001 has APB engine code.. does the 2000 also have that or is it different?

Also I want to know is it possible to use a S4 2.7T 2001 engine??

Bentley sez...

Engine
APB (2000-2003)
BEL (2003-2004)

Horsepower
APB 258@5800rpm
BEL 250@5800rpm

I also found this web page http://germancarwiki.com/doku.php/audi/s4/b5 that shows engine codes for the S4.

AGB (1997-2003)
APB (1998-2001)
AZB (2000-2001)
AZR (2000-2003)
ASJ (2000-2003)

So, based on that information they aren't the same engine codes as the A6. That doesn't necessarily mean it wouldn't work or drop right in, but that I do not know about.

That is the book answer, but a techy might know more about realistic application.

I would use the engine in that year and model car only. Things changed slightly but it would save you a headache and just locate an 01' 2.7t engine or you could just rebuild it unless something big went wrong with the motor.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the motor?

Differences would be, F hoe deleted in 2001, upgraded turbo oil lines, no ESP in 2000, your ECU would probably not like a 2000 MY engine, stick with the 2001

You can Vag-com your ECU to the engine you put in.... as for a simple plug and play engine so to speak that idk

I called up Anchor Audi Dealership (www.anchoraudi.com) and spoke to a parts department personnel and a shop mechanic both said code APB engine and parts are exactly the same for years 2000 and 2001 on 2.7T engines. I decided to swap the motor is because the current one has 165K miles on it and if I get it rebuild the labor and damaged parts may just come out about the same as I would pay for a used motor with 65-70K miles..
