Default Do I have HID headlights?

Hi again everyone!

My passenger side lowbeam headlight just went out and I need to buy replacements. I have an 2002 A6 Quattro 3L ~ I want to get some nice bright lights but dont know what to get, and im not even sure its HID, they take a second to charge when they turn on and are a bluish tint.

I also looked around the forums and could not find a DIY for replacing the bulbs.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

You might have the gass bulbs in there, if they flicker for a second before comming on. High intensity discharge bulbs dont flicker fully on ignition. I would cross check your Vin with the dealer over the phone before you make any purchases. Also i have rarely herd HID'S burning out. The bulbs however do and they run about a $100 at the dealer, I am not quite sure if there are options available however there probably is. One thing though, personally if they are gas bulbs i would go with the dealer on those they are supposed to last a 100k as i heard.

Hope this helps

You want to look for a D2S bulb. Philips or Sylvania is the best in my opinion.

One last thing * I HOPE *

I see there are different temperatures (6K 8K 10K ect...) for the HID bulbs, is there a way to tell which kind I need to buy for the replacement?

One thing you can do is to pull out the burnt bulb and look up the info on it. If it is original, then you'll find for sure what you need (wattage, etc)

That brings be back to the original post. I'm still trying to find some documentation on how to get in there to remove it. I would normally just start unscrewing things and disassembling things but this is my first Audi so I'm not sure what to expect.
