You have the correct part but are looking at the wrong location. it is located in the coolant pipe at the rear of the engine. I have the 2.8 engine and mine is on the passenger side. It is not easily accessible but it is a relatively simple repair.
Remove the connector from the sensor then remove the clip that holds the part in place. Be sure to pinch off the hose from the expansion tank so as not to lose much coolant. When installing the sensor make sure that it is properly seated or you will not be able to get the clip back in place. I used a piece of wood to tap it into position as it is difficult to get you fingers into this small space.

Thanks for your help Audion. Ill check it out tomorrow after work. whats the blue connector for that i had unplugged? I took my son to his karate class and when i left to go home, I had a check engine light and it would shut the car off. I forgot to plug that blue connector in. plugged it in. All is good now.
Does anyone have a picture of the coolant temperature sensor location?

Looks like your car has a 4 pin blue sensor in your car and you bought an updated 4 pin green sensor. The split was sometime in 99.

The blue ECT sensor has been updated to green so it looks like you have the correct sensor.
It would help if you would supply the year model and engine of your vehicle.
