Default does the front have to come off for a water pump job?

Hi Forum,
I am planning to replace the water pump on my 96 A6 and was wondering if I have to take the front off. Does anyone have experience or know of a DIY instruction?.
Thanks,
Adil

No, the 1996 A6 2.8L AFC engine has enough room. However, you should change the timming belt and the two idler pulleys, when you do the water pump. You will need the BentleyPublishers.com Audi shop manual CD and some special tools.
