Default ECM replacement

Is it true that you need to computer mate the ECM to the system for proper operation? There is a post on here that says he bought a used ECM and just plugged it in with no issues
(https://www.audiforums.com/forum/aud...acement-62997/) Is this TRUE because im having similar issues. I have no power to the coils or to the ignition module. Have replaced the crankshaft sensor and tested all fuses which leads me to believe that it is all coming down to the ECM. Have not check the cam sensor yet though. But i will be doing that as soon as i find the check list for that.

What year & model car do you have? it would be much easier to help with that info. & for the most part , the ecm will have to be either coded or programmed , plug & play ended in the mid 90'S.

would probably need to be coded but a good used one should work. Might want to check wiring diagrams & see what powers the coils & module.

I am pretty sure for the C4 chassis you can just swap the ECM if the engine and tranny are the same. The newer cars have an issue with component protection coding but that was not implemented on the C4.
