Default which ECT sensor is the right replacement

Hi, I am changing my ECT sensor on my 99 A6 2.8. I bought the updated green one; the one in my car is a blue one. When I compared them, the green one has a lot longer housing and won't connect to the wire connector (the four male brass plugs are further down in the housing therefore the female plug on the connetor won't even touch the male plugs). I went through all the forum and could not find anyone mention thisand everybody is saying the green one should be the right replacement.

Can someone help me here?

any idea would be appreciated. Also people are saying it should be pretty easy to be pulled out, but I find mine to be hard to pull out. I have already pulled out the retainer and clip. Thanks in advance.

Just an update, if it can help anyone down the road. In my year (99 A6 2.8) there were two ECTs used; mine happen to the blue one, and later in the year they changed to the green type (long shape). I found this out from the Passat forum. Went to the dealer again and god the right updated version, which matches the connector and is in green. P/N was changed to a new one too (forgot to write that down but you can find it just by giving the old P/N and the dealer will be able to match it).
