I think on my 2.8, the relay is right above the fan, under the "radiator cross member" (made that phrase up, just seems like that's what it would be called. I would imaging the 4.2's in the same place.

EDIT: Just checked the Bentley.

The Bentley does not include the 4.2 in its diagrams. I will paste all that I can find for the 4.2 and a little 2.8 as they cover that engine in more detail. Maybe it will guide you on where things might be for the 4.2

That helps quite a bit thank you. Wish I could get my hands on a 4.2 relay panel diagram. Mine is not even close to the same as yours Strange that they wouldn't have one in there. I almost bought the manual just for that reason (to locate my headlight leveling relay) i would have been furious when I got it and found nothing....

The Bentley manual is a good manual, but it is MISSING A LOT of stuff. I can't say for sure your diagram is not in there, but it isn't listed at all.

They do include a few things for the 4.2's cooling system. You already have those pics.

EDIT: Loaded up Elsewin, looks like most if not all the relays are behind the glove box. I find Elsewin extremely difficult to use. Auditech79 probably can tell you exactly where the relays are.

Default A6 4.2 Radiator Fan not turning on

I have a 2002 A6 4.2 and the radiator fans do not turn on.
I can't find the relays and the Audi parts counter says that is the most popular spare part in the power supply chain that fails!

Any help locating the relays would be appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

I thought the c5 4.2 had three fans, one mechanical and two electric?
