Default Electrical problems with stereo

So, the stereo in my car seems to have some electrical problems. When I try to turn the volume up or down, it will more often then not respond by doing the exact opposite. Point in case being, last thursday I tried to turn up my radio and it quieted down before finally responding by getting louder. I then went to turn down the radio and it only got more and more loud and eventually I had to just turn the radio off. Anybody else have this happen to them before or know how to fix it? Thanks!

if you have the original head unit, it is probably just getting worn out. there are a lot of different reasons that you could be having the volume issues you describe though. it may be a wiring/speaker problem. if you have access to a vag-com you can scan the audio system and may be able to narrow down the issue. or you can always just replace the head. depending on which radio you have, you can probably get a new one for about $35

good luck
