Engine Mounts

Have a 2000 A6 with 140,000 -- have been to 4 mechanics trying to diagnose clunk noise and car jolt when excelerating -- first said tie rods replace them, now one is saying engine mounts, another bushings and another transmission mounts. None of them seem certain and am trying to save myself buying all three to fix what may be one problem -- anyone with experience with this. On an end note...a few of these mechanics have said -- Audi's with my mileage are no good and should be junked - open to opinions on this....

My opinion ----- The mechnics that said an Audi with 140K is no good and should be junked are full of CRAP!

Any vehicle becomes quirky with age but in my experience Audi's age better than most. In fact my 89 200QT went to 350K, the 88 90Q had over 200K, the 95 A6 had about 200K and my current 87 A6 Avant just passed 215K. They took a bit of work - usually small things to keep going but they were not junk.

As for you your clunking. It is hard to diagnose online. You have mentioned some of the major causes. I would probably focus on the front end bushings and maybe even the exhaust system. Motor or transmission mounts would be low on my list.

It should not be all that hard to find with a bit of prying and shaking of the vehicle.

Have someone put your car in drive, hold the brake and push the gas. While they do that, stand outside(to the side of the car in case their foot slips off the brake) and watch the engine. If the motor moves up and down then its the motor mounts. Look underneath and try and do the same thing for the transmission.

hehhe

hheh, same here felas :)

I just replaced control arm kit (second time), refill differential oil (but still hear some rubbing noise when making sharp turn in low speed - it's not CV joint !) and replaced CV boots.
When i step on brake and changed gear from R to D, engine goes up and down.
There is one mount at front sub frame (under the front radiator) and two on sides.
Is there any other mount i didn't find ?
Those two on sides looks good, mean not moving, but that front looks gone.
I'm so stupid , i didn't shot a pic :(

I tried to find some mount kit on ebay, but no one looks similar :) (i see only side mounts).

How is called front motor mount ??

Its not a do it your self type of job unless you have a lift. You have to support your engine to lower the frame. The engine mounts are easy at that point.
