Look for a scrap yard transmission. The dealer just wants you to buy a new(er) car, preferably from him.

BUt, I would take it to another shop to get a second opinion. A transmission problem doesn't go away when you change plugs!

Default second opinion

This was my fourth try and finally I had to visit the dealer. I'm located in the UAE not the US but I hope that doesn't matter in sharing my problems. I have found a workshop where they can rebuilt the transmission for between 1000-2000 USD with three months warranty. He first have to see it before he can tell me how much it will cost.

No the dealer didn't want me to buy from him he even provided me a number where they can rebuilt the transmission.

Getting a transmission from scrap yard will that work? I was told that it might could give problems.

Eddy,

We have no way to provide an advice based on experience:
Your engine is 2.4l, 4-cilynders, transmission model unknown.
The car could be made in India (despite the shields).

Rebuilding transmission requires tools, knowledge and experience.
I strongly doubt that in UAE rebuilding transmissions is a casual practice.
Any salvaged transmission should come with warranty.
Replacement on your car should be a piece of cake in comparison with our hogs.

I’d suggest replacement. ( consider TC, fluid replacement)

How much is a whole salvaged car?

How much is the hourly service rate?

Default lets see

The car has no value at this point I believe. I will check for a replacement tiptronic transmission with code EBV.

No not from India although most technicians are from either India or from the Philippines. You can find a lot of workshops some are good some are bad. Dealership charge you about 40 USD an hours. The little shops, depending on your face and nationality :-)

Thanks all for your help, will let you know what I did.

I did not ask about your car, but for salvaged/scraped Audi !
Buy a whole scraped car.

You might have reached the limit of transmission life - with no oil changes.

Look for low mileage used transmission. Your car is not Quattro - is it not a Multitronic transmission you have????

With $40/h one should go for used transmission, replaced by dealers (if they can do it).
The shop that would rebuild it for $1000 - does the amount include complete job - transmission off-transmission on?

Default Dexol

Just to give you an update.

Sorry I already considered my car to be salvage.:-) I have no idea how much that will cost me but found a 1998 model for 3500 USD on the internet with only 118,000 km. Scrap yards here are a mess, don't want to go after that and beside this who will install?

Visited yesterday Dexol who seems to be an expert in rebuilding transmissions. They said that my transmission was not that complicated thus expensive. Dexol has also branches in the US. I called the three branches they have in the UAE and their estimations were all different. The cheapest was between 800 USD (repair) and 1800 USD (replace), however if they give me a indication like that, I will probable pay 1800 USD for a rebuilt transmission.

I still haven't decided what to do but keep you informed.

Eddy
