Default Engine Trouble _ Possible Cracked Head or Gasket Failure

Saturday I started my 2002 A6 2.7t and drove it about a half mile before I turned around and headed back home. It began to smoke very badly and was losing power almost to the point of stalling. Its a blue smoke and when I smelled the exhaust it smelled like gas and oil very heavily. One home I looked under the hood and couldn't really see much but it looked like I may have blown a gasket on the head or something. I have small leaks of oil but not sure where its origin is. Could someone please give me a hint of what I'm up against with this. I really love this car and its in mint condition so I really want to keep it if possible. Its got about 120,000 miles on it.

Thanks,

Lowell

i don't think you have a blown head gasket as it is very uncommon. I also don't think you have a cracked head as i have never heard of that happening on these engines. From your description of the problem, It is likely a bad turbo. When a turbo goes bad, pressurized oil is pushed into the exhaust making a huge amount of smoke.

That makes a ton of sense. I couldn't believe that a blown head gasket or cracked head is very likely at all. Thank you very much!
