Hi guys. I'm new here and did the search for this but no luck so here goes.
Car is a 2001 A6. The ESP kicks in during freeway sweeping righthand turns on dry pavement at normal speeds of 35 mph plus. Left turns don't have a problem. When the ESP kicks in you get the corresponding drag on the right front tire which is a pain in the ****.
Barrier Audi (Bellevue, WA) has looked at it twice and says no problem. But clearly something is wrong. Ideas?

In England, pavement means the same as an American sidewalk right?

Just one question for you Brits.....what is the American version of a smeghead?

 

On my car, the ESP stay on, I have a botton to turn it off. I would have the dealer check the wheel sensors and the steering wheel sensor. Are you chipped, becausethe ESPis controlled by the ECU. What did the dealer check?

 

I suspect when he says the ESP is on, he means the indicator on the dash flashes as if the ESP has kicked in and it is moving power from one wheel to another - not that the actual ESP function is on via the button.

I suppose there is always the option of shutting if off, but if the problem is consistent the dealer should easily be able to replicate it during a road test. I agree with Capp - the wheel sensors are most likely the issue.

 

Have the dealer check it again... or better yet have the mechanic come with you on a test drive so you can show him exactly what is happening. Do you have smaller wheels on the right side? That could do it too.

 

New info. Again the dealers mechanic couldn't find any faults but during the test drive noticed that indeed the ESP would kick in on dry ROADS during gentle right turns at speedand drag the right front wheel. What they did find was that the tie rod ends were loose. Replaced those and no further issues.
Go figure.

 

It's amazing the things that actually cause problems on these rides. The members guessed something in the suspension, sothey wereclose. These cars are so darn complex, but fun to drive.
