First time allroad owner(158K) - threw a CEL!!!

Just got back from the dealer today(250mi) and the car has a CEL after doing a high-speed freeway overtake. Can I disconnect the battery and reset the code? Or, is there another way to do this safely?

TIA

Get yourself some sort of code reader, Vag-com being the gold standard. Otherwise I can break out my crystal ball if you like?

You need a code reader to clear the code, sometimes the code will clear on it's own.

I just noticed that:confused:. Wonder how long it will stay that way before re-appearing again.

My a6 does that sometimes. It will misfire on occasion but the ECU resets its codes after some amount of time and it will be CEL free for another long trip. Its crazy. I think teh CEL is a love hate relationship, it will drive you freaking nuts because such small stuff will set it off, but it can also save big money by warning you early.

There is no way of telling... If you just got the car, and plan to keep it for awhile, invest in a VAGcom cable. (If you have a laptop) It will pay for itself in one mechanic visit. Ebay cable works fine.

Don't get a flash from a cheap tuner.

It overrode the factory ECU update which addressed catalytic converter threshold issue. I got a catalytic converter below threshold code within in a day of chipping. I had to bribe an Audi tech to do an update on my car. Dealer wouldn't touch it with a 30 ft pole, and their only response was a new ECU. I wasn't going to pay +$1K for a new ECU.
