Gauge Cluster removal
Is it possible to remove the Gauge cluster from a 99 a6 2.8Q and reconnect it, and not have any problems? i was thinkin about buying the chrome rings off ebay for each circle inside the cluster, i just want to make sure if you can take it out and disconnect it and reconnect with out it like resetting something or something being locked. Any help is appreciated.
thanks. |
Here is a DIY on removing the cluster. You will have to dis connect the battery so you may need the radio code but other than that there should be few problems.

ok, so do i have to do the vag-com part? all im doing is taking the cluster out, and putting it back in, im putting in the same cluster, not a new one......

You don't need to disconnect the battery. Everything worked fine in my '99 A6 so it should in yours too. It's really easy and not a big deal.

ok good.. but do i have to do anything with a vag com? or is it just a plug and play sorta thing? i hope so

I didn't do squat and the only thing that reset was the average mileage and trip. The odometer is the same and everything else is based on sensors. Again, i don't see why people have made such a big deal out it; it's not.

you should not need vag com he did that because he was changing the cluster. I gave you that for removal instructions. You should be good to go with just removing it and doing what ever you need to do. If you can do a DIY for fitting the silver surrounds that would be grate, I hope to do my own some time soon.
