Default grinding noise when using wiper blades

Hey all, tonight a noise started when I use my wipers. Comes from the center of the dash, between the wiper blades. Sounds like a faint grinding. The stereo drowns it out so its not uber loud but very noticeable when the stereo is off. You can hear it from outside the car as well. When I lift up the right wiper blade while they are on the noise gets faster (less resistance for the motor I guess). Funny thing is, wipers work fine. I am planning a 16 hour driving trip and would hate for the wipers to seize while on the highway....wiper motor soon to expire?

Thanks for your advice guys. My garage is booking 3 weeks in advance and if the wipers are on the verge of failure I will arrange alternate travel plans.

Thanks again,

Frizzlefry

Is it a C4 or C5 body?

Damn -- this is my post number 2,000 and I'm asking a simple question instead of making an intelligent reccmendation, outlandish comment, or saying something that should be saved for future generations.

Could it be that future generations need to be reminded to give a bit more info when they want help??

I was just about to add more details and saw your reply. Appreciate your help...is a C5 (2004). To shed a little more light, I just had the car in for some detailing and noticed the sound later that evening. A better description of the sound would be that it is similar to the rapid clicking noise thats made when you take a remote control car that only goes forward and push it backwards.

Thanks,

Frizzlefry.

I don`t know about the C5 but if it were a C4 I'd open the hood and remove the plastic tray near the windshield. Then I'd see if something had been dropped into the area by the detailer. Next I'd turn the wipers on and try to determine where the noise is coming from. If it is from the end of one of the links I'd use grease, oil, duct tape or whatever and try to quiet it.

Will do. If they dropped something in there hopfully I can find it and get it out with some needle nose pliers without having to take anything apart Thanks again.

Well, I removed the cover in the engine bay so I could expose the wiper motor and its definitly the motor. I recorded it and its shared off here: http://www.4shared.com/audio/HpeFLHA...0506-1143.html
Does not sound like its going to die any minute but I would imagine that replacing the motor is likely the only fix?

Used from Shokan or Force Five will save some money!
