Default Haunted windows

I have a problem with my 95 model A6 windows which no one can seem to resolve. I have so far spent a third of the value of the car in trying to resolve the problem, but without success. The windows go up and down of their own accord, irrespective of whether the ignition is on or not. It happens when I'm driving along the road and it also happens when the car has been parked. For instance I can leave the car, properly secured in a car park and return to find the window or windows open. I cannot close them, they will only close when they feel like it. One rear window remained open for six days. I have taken the vehicle to four garages, two of which told me the problem was resolved, only for the windows to open again within a few minutes. One told me (an Audi/VW specialist garage) that their diagnostic software said I didn't have a problem at all, but charged me £60 ($100) for the privilidge. And the Audi dealership said that to try and find the problem would involve changing parts on a trial and error basis which would costa an arm and a leg and far exceed the value of the car. Has anyone ever had this problem and if so how did you resolve it? I'm literally pulling my hair out as to what to do.

Is it all the windows or just one window? Sounds like a malfunctioning central electrics module thou.

I would cut my losses and sell it. It wouldn't be right to sell it to a private party without telling them about it, so you should sell it to a dealership and not tell them about it.

what about when you use the key in the door lock to close?
seems like a ctrl module with a short or ground trouble.

It started with just the drivers window, but when I had this disconnected from both the motor and the switch, it started immediately to happen with the rear passenger side window as well as the sun roof. Since my original post I have had it tested by another "expert" who cannot find the problem.

Makes no difference. It can happen three days after the ignition key was removed, or whilst the igition is on. Not tried the church option yet though. I normally only visit for weddings Christenings and Funerals. I don't know how helpful the boss will be if I add renegade Audi windows to the list.
