have to fix/replace torque converter - suggs?
i just had the mechanic tell me that the torque converter is bad on my audi 2000 a6 2.8L
do you suggest sending it somewhere to have it rebuilt? who is good at it and what is the general cost? what is the price range I should expect from the mechanic?
thanks - andy

Torque converter questions...
I would suggest reading the threads on trans problems, as they all seem to point to the troublesome torque converter. You can then see what others, including myself, have done.
In short, without yelling, USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!

Torque converter
I see.
If you go new, you will get the latest seal (the problem that leads to failure) and a hefty price tag. About $750 for the part I believe.
Remanufactured offers the availability of enhanced stall speed, and better turbines.
I went this way. I used Level 10 transmission in NJ. I know that others can do this. 517 transmission, also in NJ. I did consult with 2 other trans shops that I knew well, they were both not familiar with the issues of the torque converter, and one even told me he does not like to do those, as he has had problems with the rebuilder's work. In short, find someone who has a proven track record, is aware of the issues of Audi torque converters and will stand behind their work. If I were you, I would find a transmission shop to do the whole repair to avoid any finger pointing if any problems do arise.
