Have switched your OEM radio?

Hi everyone,

I got a little question here. I'm considering switching my OEM radio to an aftermarket one. I own an A6 97 with Bose sound system and 6 CD changer. Is there a way to upgrade the reciever while being able to use the rest of the system (Speakers, CD Changer...)?

Any help or suggestion is highly appreciated.

just get this you connect the aftermarket radio wires to the wires on this then plug it in to your oem wiring harness.

If you swap out the stock head unit with an aftermarket, you will not be able to use the factory changer. It only works with the stock radio. If you have any questions let me know, I own an 1998 A6 and have replaced the headunit with an alpine and was able to use the stock amplifier and subwoofer, but not the changer.

Thanks guys,

I will definitely let you know Houndz408.... First I have to see if I can get the OEM working. It's in safe mode and seems to be stock in the housing!!

Would it be better to install the harness using preamp outputs on the cd player, or are you plugging it from the receiver amp outputs directly to the bose amp?

Avari, you could use the speaker outputs to run the bose system but you would have to use a line level adapter to make the signal low enough for the line level imputs that the bose system requires. Use the rca outs instead, the adapter costs around $40 and the speaker outputs aren't as clean.

get the wiring harness and buy the cd changer that works with the aftermarket deck.

If that works, then im going to take the cd changer din in the back and run some diags to see if I can setup a normal preamp lvl input back there. That would be enough, no cd changer controls, just left righ inputs. Then coil the cd changer wire up in the globebox and out an ipod mount somewhere, and plug it in.
