6spd M tick in Neutral
Greetings, I'm looking at returning to the Audi family (1st one was Mom's 83 5000 turbo when I could pry the keys away from her :-) after a long absence and recently looked at a A6 2.7T with the 6-speed. (2001)
I loved the car. I actually fit inside, with the sunroof even and that's rare as I'm 6'2" with a long torso. The power, the handling, and of course the Quattro all seemed to be perfect however...
The particular car I drove had one oddity that I didn't expect. When waiting at a light in neutral I put my hand on the shifter and it felt as if there was a vibration in neutral. If I had to describe it, it seemed like the neutral gear had a bump in it and every time it spun around, it thumped the shifter. It was relatively trivial, we are talking about a small bump but I didn't feel it in any other gear and I would expect that this isn't 'normal'.
I did a quick search of this forum and the recall/tsb list but didn't see anything relevant. Any advice or experience? Is this something that just happens or is this something that should make me walk away from this car?
thanks

RE: 6spd M tick in Neutral
Some movement/vibration in the shifter is normal. Just to make yourself feel better, you might get the motor mounts and tranny mount checked out, which in my experience would be the source of shifter movement, but the shifter would also "buck" when you mash the pedal. Did it?

RE: 6spd M tick in Neutral
In gear there wasn't a tick, at least not like what I felt in neutral. There was the normal torque movement of the shifter when I got on the gas. In neutral it was more of a feeling of an imperfection in the gear itself.
