Thumbs up Headlamp Restore Kit

So, for a while now my driver side headlamp had faded bad and started to yellow - even though my passenger side is still damn near perfect. It was driving me crazy and I was considering just dishing out the $400 for new headlamps (angel eyes). However, I was just putzing around Advanced Auto to get my caliper paint and ran into 3M's Headlamp restore kit - $21.99+tax. Thought to myself, "Hey, what the hell do I have to lose? If I screw it up, then I'll just finally push myself to buy new ones." lol

Well, I must say...it came out pretty darn good for being a $20 kit!

Besides the kit, all that you need is a spray bottle w/ water, microfiber towel, a household drill, masking tape, and about 30 mins of your time.

Masking her off

After Polishing/Buffer (Finished Product):

My H.I.Ds are finally the same color! LOL
(I always thought my driver ballast was going bad...as the driver was never as bright and a little different shade than passenger)

Default 3M Resto

Hi 01A6Turbo,

I used the same 3M headlight resto kit on my A6 and had very good results too. It was my passenger side lamp that looked hazed and yellowed, but I decided to treat both. My headlights, like yours now look factory fresh! Good Job

I didn't do the pass. side because I figured why scratch the lens when it isn't needed? aka Don't try to fix something that isn't broken lol

change the entire kit as the headlights are the important part of the car and you cannot move without it.

Great tip. I had new lamp assembly on driver side, and it clearly shows that some work was done on the car when you see passenger side lamp. Now I can go polish all my cars.

Yes, I would recommend this kit (Found at Advanced Auto for $23?) as opposed to paying over $200 for a new headlamp if your OEM's are fading on the outside. If they are starting to cloud on the inside, or starting to get condensation, this kit will not help. In those cases, I would do what I did yesterday - haha. Grab a hot blow dryer, or heat gun and take your headlamps apart at the sealed part. It takes time and patience but you are able to get the cover off without taking the entire headlamp out. I did this yesterday to remove the orange reflector in the turn signals and produce clear corners. Not a new mod to me, but one I hadn't yet done to the A6. Here are some pics of the CC.
