Headlight Range Control Adjustment A6 (C6)
I have a 2005 A6 with a feature that Audi describe as 'Dynamic Headlight Range Control'. This automatically adjusts how dipped the headlights are depending on the load you're carrying. I think it's included in the Xenon-plus option. There is no manual adjuster dial near the steering wheel as this system is designed to be automatic. Unfortunately both headlights appear to have set themselves to the lowest setting but there is no error on the dash. I was wondering whether there is a way to manually set the headlight range (screw setting near the headlight housing?). I've seen many posts on this topic but none for the C6. As always, any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Yes I was just looking at VAG-COM and it appears this is the only way to change it.
My next problem now is how to get hold of a (relatively) cheap HEX-USB+CAN or HEX-COM+CAN cable for my PC. I have VAG-COM (v607) already but the cable costs $360 from Ross-Tech. The C6 won't take any other cable. I've seen it as low as around $200 from a European site. If anyone out there has a HEX cable they'd like to sell me please let me know. Budget's tight so it may be back to the dealer.

Yeah I had a look at eBay but without luck. The newer HEX cables are all $300+. I think the HEX format is just too new. This is the price you pay for going with the bleeding edge...[:'(]
You may want to check the headlight assembly themselfs for a manuel adjustment. On the c5's the scan tool is only used to set the motors to a base setting and then they are adjusted to the proper position from there using manual adjustments. The base setting is really only used as an alignment start point. It isnt completely necessary to move the aim.
Has anyone out there located/used the headlight assembly manual adjustment on a C6? This is for the Xenon housing. All I can see that's accessible are two large, white hexagonal (alan key) sockets on each housing. One's mounted high the other low but both are accessible from above. In my limited, novice-like view of the world, could these be for adjusting the range in the horizontal and vertical or are they just screws associated with the housing assembly? There's nothing written on them. Any clues greatly appreciated. Thanks.
What I would do is: Pull up to your garage door, or a wall and turn on your lights. Mark those adjusters with a sharpie at their orignal position and crank them to see if your lights move up or down the wall.
On the C5 A6 (prior platform) there was a white hexagonal adjustment screw on the top of the housing near the rearward edge. This is connected to the xenon adjustment motor, but a large philips-head screwdriver allows for manual adjustments of the beam. I am not sure if the C6 headlamps have the same adjustment screw. If you do haev it, make sure you mark exactly where you started (use a pen to mark the 12:00 position, and turn in small 1/4 turn increments. Also, you want to make suer you do NOT turn them up too high, or you will blind the folks coming at you at night.
Worse case scenario, go to the dealer...you have warrranty, right? Let them adjust it properly for you.
