Default Help...A6 Making odd Noise

hi all,

I own a 2003 A6 2.7T Quattro. it just clicked over 136,000 miles this weekend. last Thursday I was driving downtown during heavy rains, due to lack of drainage the street flooded, the water was probably two feet deep and I was given no other choice but to drive through it. the plastic shroud under the front of the vehicle filled with water and the front screws that connect the shroud to the bumper tore out, so the shroud was dragging on the ground like an open mouth >. I got home and removed the shroud but the bracket was still left. the next morning I was accelerating onto the highway and heard this awful THUMP repeatedly only at WOT. when I got home i removed the bracket and thought that would be the end of it. tonight i went to the store and tried another WOT run and found it to still be making the same noise. when I arrived home I looked under the car and saw nothing abnormal. it sounds more like there is something stuck underneath then a mechanical problem. I don't know where to start looking for a fix. please help.

Have you listened carefully with the radio, a/c off to see if it is still making the sound when you drive normally?

yes, I have listened. it only makes the noise at WOT. today in my driveway i removed the front right wheel to inspect it and see what could be causing the noise. when i removed the wheel the hub rotated and now i cannot put the wheel back on. help

You drove thru 2' of water and now you have problems? Two feet goes pretty far up the engine. It's tough to guess what's wrong. Should have backed up -- that was the way out!
