Default help! CATALYTIC Converter...need I say more

Ok..so I just got my car back from Audi after dropping close to $3 k on timing belt repairs, new tires, tie rod assembly, ugh and I expected to not have to do anything else other than basic oil changes for a good 6 months. I have an a6 2.7t, 2001 and it has 102,500 miles...is this the time where I should really get rid of it? I mean I love my car, but I cannot continue to spend $ on maintenance like this I expect at least a good year of run time. My check engine light keeps coming back on for the catalytic converter, what are my options? What has everyone done, how long can I go without taking care of this? Can I trust an independent mechanic to take care of this? What are the costs? Your feedback is greatly appreciated

Bella

Really shouldnt have gone to the Audi dealer for all that. For almost that much money ($3k) I would have changed my turbos. Find a good indy shop YOU know you can trust with your baby. You can get all that for half or even less.

I have the exact same problem. I just had 2 grand worth of work done at the dealer including timing belt. Right afterwords I started getting a cel for a rough road censor and a warmp up catalyst. I just ignore it because the dealer says they CANNOT find the problem and until it has drivablilty issues not to worry. But on the bright side I just started working at the largest independent shop in my city and I get labor for free so hopefully soon everything will be good but as of now my 2.7t still runs like a champ. I also have a nice list of mods I am palnning on getting.

This is something you can baby.... I wouldn't go around punching it.... Depending on how serious the problem is you will notice almost zero power in the high end around 50-60mph. You are able to drive on it for awhile id say but def don't be stupid driving around
