HELP ignition
 

1996 A6 2.8L Quattro. My key does not kick-back from the on pission, so the starter does not disengage. Can this be fixed without a whole new key cylinder and set? or maybe a push-button start?

You'll have to replace the ignition switch....cheap part, hell of a PITA to do. Buy yourself a pair of small hands with the switch and a bucket of patience.

consider yourself lucky.. When mine failed it would not turn off.

the switch mechanism is on the back of the tumbler set. As chefro said small hands and patience -- sometimes it is easier to remove the whole switch mechanism,. but it depends upon how much fun you want to have..

ignition switch is needed to be replaced. there might be wiring problem
