I recently got a neew battery in my 1999 Audi A6 2.8 Liter Quattro. Now, my car radio is in SAFE mode. I contacted the dealership and they instructed me to plug my car into a battery charger and turn my ignition to the "ON" position for an hour and then it was supposed to let me enter my code to unlock it. I have the code and tried it with no luck. Does anyone know any other way to unlock my radio? I purchased the car from an independent seller without the owner's manual. Please help! I'm going crazy without a radio during my two hour commute to and from school!!! Thanks.

 

Did you actually enter the code? What was the exact result?

 

I was never given the opportunity to enter the code. I was tried to use the presets like the dealership had instructed me to do, but the screen never changed from "SAFE". I have it on the battey charger right now.

 

You have to hit buttons on the radio to get it out of safe mode. Depending on your radio you will have to hold a different set of buttons. Do a search. Its been covered mulitple times here.

 

I figured it out, thank you. I held the RDS and FM2 buttons down for about 10 seconds and then "1000" appeared on the screen, I was then able to enter my 4-digit code using the 1-4 preset buttons. I then held the RDS and FM2 buttons down again and Ta-Dah, it worked!! Yay!
