Default HID headlight issues

I have an 03 A6 3.0 with HID headlights. Both are currently working, but the passenger-side light appears to have a gold/yellow tinge to it while the driver side light is the normal clear/white color. Does this sound like a bad bulb or bad ballast? Also, I've seen other posts that show vvme.com has xenon kits and they sell the replacement ballasts for those kits. Will one of the vvme.com ballasts work (if that's the problem)?Considering these ballasts are for the kits, am I right in assuming that they are not adirect replacement? I don't want to splice and solder to make it work. Any information on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Default HID lamps do age

I do know that as Xenon lamps age their brightness lowers considerably. "Everyday" halogen lamps do not dim as much, if at all, as they age. You can replace just the Xenon HID lamp. I'll probably be doing this in a few months on my 2000 A6.

Last night the headlight gave up the ghost (where did that saying come from anyway?). I'm going to try swapping the bulbs to determine if the bulb or the ballast is the culprit. After having looked under the hood, does anyone have any suggestions to get all of the plastic cladding and covers out of the way and get at the headlight assemblies with any ease?

I would love an answer to this question as well. My A6 passenger low headlight died and I have the bulb, just need to know how to get in there.....

On my A6, the headlight assemblies are 2 pieces. There's the housing, and then there's a removable back that's held in place by retainers. When I replaced my headlight, I simply disconnected the lights from the battery, then removed the retainers and then the backing. After that it was all out in the open for easy access.
