Default How to close the hood on an A6?

A few weeks ago, I sold an inherited 1998 A6 to a relative. Now he has just called me and said he opened the hood and he can't get it to close. As far as I can tell, it's in the full open position. The car is in a public parking lot, so he's stranded there until he can get it closed. It's too far away for me to go there to have a look. Is there some sort of trick for closing the hood on an A6 - something that has to be released to let it close?

My 2001 A6's hoodis just held open by a hood strut...not sure if its the same on the 98's. Mine doesn't lock into place at all.

so he cant shut it from wide open bc something is stuck ... you could always unbolt the hyd. things that keep it up and then just shut it to get it home n look at it

ive seen some hydraulic pistons that have a small plstic "catch/latch" on the top that prevents them from accidentally closing. if this replative may have replaced that gas shock piston with a different brand/type - it may have that clasp on it to keep it from closing

worth a try
