Default How hard is it to install an aftermarket BOV on a 1.8T b6?

I am buying one in the near future and given that I want a stock one, I am wondering how hard it is to convert the diverter valve over to a BOV with a hard pipe.

I get the general idea, but have never owned or worked on any audi so i'm wondering if it's a huge pain or if it's really expensive?

It's a simple mod I will want to have on my b6 probably first thing when I buy it.

That ricer mod is not a good idea. The reason for the bypass valve is to give the overpressure air somewhere to go when the throttle suddenly closes at high rpm. You have two choices - run it through a bypass valve and re-inject it back into the system just ahead of the turbo but after the mass airflow sensor or vent it to the atmosphere. Venting makes sense if the MAF sensor is after the turbo. If it is before the turbo remember this confuses the ECU which has already measured this air so you end up with a very rich charge.

Audi designed this system this way for a reason. It is more efficient, gives better throttle response and does not blow out your catalytic converters.

If you just doing it for the cool sound that is pretty lame.

Well call me lame then. I didn't know where they placed the mass air on these. Like i said i don't know much about them. Is there any "louder" bypass/recirc valve i can purchase?

Yes i'm being serious, i came here to get the answer to my question not told i am a ricer.

Thanks in advance to those kind enough to supply me with the knowledge that i lack on these cars.

I apologize for my editorial comments but my technical information is correct. The engineers at Audi use a BPV instead of a BOV for a very good reason and changing to a BOV may have some unexpected consequences.

Being an engineer myself, one of the reasons I like Audi is the design and thought that goes into the the car. These cars are well engineered and if you want to change something you should think carefully about how your mods will affect the that design.

Also, this is the A6 forum. You may get more useful information in the A4 forum which is based on the B6 chassis.

Oh wow. Thanks I thought it said "B6" not "A6". My mistake.

One option is to go for a hybrid DV/BOV ... it get some air out and some recirculating ... you can adjust the ratio you want and you don't get bad code form the ecu ...
