MMI Update DIY?

MMI Update DIY?
I would like to update my MMI software without taking it to the dealer. I just purchased an '06 Avant and I'm pretty sure it has the stock s/w on it (I wrote the version down but don't have it handy at the moment). I will be installing AMI, so I do need to update at least for that. I've done some searching on here and other forums and have read about people updating through the CD drive, but haven't been able to find any place to actually download the CD. Any help out there?
I've also heard that the latest Navigation DVDs will also contain the MMI updates on them, but I'm not sure that's 100% true? Also, just curious, do any of the available MMI or Nav updates include a "birds-eye view" option when looking at the map (kind of a psuedo-3D)?
Thanks very much!
Chris

I have owned a 2005 A6 4.2 for 4 years and the MMI updates are free while you are under warranty and make the required complaint about the software not doing something correctly. What problems are you having with the current MMI software?
I would not suggest upgrading the MMI software yourself. However, updating the Nav software is an easy job. Which Nav software version are you running?
By the way, none of the updates will get you a birds eye view.
