Default I have a serious problem with my A6

Today I picked up my A6 99 2.8L 30v from my mechanic, Ive done an extensive work on it, Changed the timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, thermostat, cam and camshaft seals, fixed an oil leak from the oil pan, added new oil, did a radiator flush, and my car had the CV joints and CV boots also damaged, changed all that also, added new front struts also, I arrived at home and the car was perfect running!!, nice and smooth. I wanted to give it a little test on my neighborhood, and just after leaving my home and running it for like a minute or so, The car started making a rattling sound and the steering wheel got very very hard, I just couldn't go any further. I parked it on the sidewalk and I turned it off, after like 10 minutes, I started the car and was doing fine, but right after I put the shift on drive, The car started making a very bad sound, and I couldn't move the steering wheel, I couldn't move it any further. I had to tow it back home. please any ideas, what it might be the problem???, Im calling my mecanic tomorrow morning to hear his point of view.
