Default I need advice please!

If I can get this car for $4000 would it be worth it? They are selling for much more than this around here...would anyone else take this plunge? He seems to take pretty good care of it. And the front end rebuild is just the tie rods and stuff...he hit a curb in the snow a couple of years back. Please help before I drop 4 g's on this. Thanks in advance guys...

Ask when the timing belt was last changed. What type of oil has he used and by chance does he have any recipes for all the work he claims to have done?

he says he replaced the timing belt when the water pump was done just recently. and i'm sure he has receipts, he's really meticulous like that. but he is an arrogant douche though. i just have no idea what to really look for, how to tell if the turbo's are going out or what. i want it bad, but not sure if i wanna blow my whole tax return on it. lol. he uses synthetic oil and changes every 5000.

If you have to spend your whole tax return on it, it isn't the car for you. Audi's require maintenance. Pricey maintenance.

Default Just like mine...

I still get compliments and "I can't believe it is ten years old." Nice car, price seems very good - you could almost get that much back in parts or salvage.
So if you are good with the wrench - why not?

As a 2.8 owner I have zero experience with the turbos of the 2.7, but from what I've read over the years, the turbos seem to be pretty reliable if taken care of properly. But isn't that true for all things in life.

I think the car could be a good purchase, my biggest concerns would be the torque converter. They don't have a huge failure rate, but the ones that fail, are almost always the early 2000's with the 2.7. I believe in 02 they changed the converter to a more robust design. The 4.2 also has some (not so common) tranny issues but it has a different transmission from the 2.7 and 2.8.

I would also have a mechanic or yourself, check the control arms, changing them would set you back 500.00 in parts so not too much. Also check for any leaking coolant or signs of leaking coolant. The After-run pump (for the turbos) tend to fail and can be expensive to replace.

Also navigate over to the A4 forum and look for S4 owners and get their opinions. The S4 at one time shared the 2.7 with the A6 and they tend to be more involved with their cars vs us A6 owners. Well at least I think so.
