Inportant questions? Please help.
hey whats up? i have a 1993 audi 90 quattro and i have a few questions.
1. My car is running too cold it doesnt reach proper temp. so im thinking its the thermostat thats stuck partially open.
2. The 4 wires that come from both radiator fans are not connected to anything. where do they connect to.?
3. The engine idles slightly rough when started in the morning till its runs for a few minutes.
4. The car seems to not have enough power even when it has the 5speed its just that my other car is a 1990 dodge daytona with a 3.0l v6 5speed with over 200,000 miles and only 140 hp and its way faster that this audi. I thought the audi was rated at 172hp?
Im not wanting this audi to be a performance car of fast by any means but most cars rated at that hp level are more powerful, faster, etc.
ANY HELP WILL DO. IF YOU GUYS CAN SHARE SOME PICTURES OF WHERE THE THERMOSTAT IS LOCATED OR LINKS TO DIAGRAMS THAT WOULD BE GREATLY DEPRECIATED.

Audi 90
Tony,
In answer to your questions,
1. Yes, it sounds like a thermostat.
2. Fan wires are supposed to be connected to the fan relays
3. This is a can of worms here... Start with the basics, When was your last tune up including filters? Is the timing set properly? Is the cold start injector firing? (the one seperate in the back) Is your coolant temp sensor (for the injection) reading correctly?
As you can see, there are many things to check and make sure they are correct before hazarding a solution. Check them out and cross them off one by one and report back. Maybe we can help.
4. A properly running car will boost performance. One that does not reach temp will not run properly. See numbers 1, 2, and 3.
Best of luck

I'm sorry for your two days of waiting for an answer. Lots of fellows on this A6 forum are very knowledgeable, but I'm affraid you should have rather posted in the A4 forum. Wasn't the Audi 90 the precursor of A4? Someone who owned or still owns a first-generation A4 should be able to give you more specific and better suited answers.
Having said that, on a C4 (for example) - so the very first Audi A6 after the 100 model, the thermostat housing is in the front of the engine, offset toward the passenger side bank. You'll have to remove the Timing belt cover and the timing belt in order to reach to it.
