Not trying to shift the focus of this topic but, is there a way to disconnect the cd player in the trunk and run an IPODstraight into the bose? If so, has anyone done this? How do you do it?

It works with any iPod that has the connector on the bottom. Yes, it charges the iPod, yes, you can foward/revers, yes you can select playlist. No, you do not get ID tags, NO, you can not control the iPod unit itself when it plugged in. Yes, you loose the trunk mounted CDC, as the iPod plugs into that part of the head unit.
